Hi newly diagnosed, been on new diet and checking bloods for a week and been on 1 metformin and 2 glicozide a day for a week. Was told to go up to 2 metformin. Today I've been in the bathroom a lot! Is that normal?! Does it go away?!

Checking my bloods 2 hours after each meal as nurse told me and my 7d average is 7.4. Is that any good?

Metformin can cause bowel problems, which often subside after a couple of weeks. However some people unfortunately can't tolerate too much Metformin. I'm fine on one tablet, but not on two, so have additional medications. You can ask for the slow release version, which is kinder on the tummy.
I think 7.4 two hours after eating is good. The suggested maximum is, I think, 8.5mmol/l

Yeah if I'm feeling like this on 2 tablets I don't fancy going up to 4!
If you are getting those sort of reading then there would seem no need to increase to 4 especially if your stomach is being upset.
Taking mid meal often helps or slow release but otherwise if it doesn't settle you could drop back to just the 1 and see how that goes. Ifyou are taking the gliclazide as well that may be sufficient together with your dietary changes.

Hi @guybrush there are many different Medications that can help, personally I’ve never had a problem with Metformin in the arrow 30 yrs I’ve been taking varying dosages of it

Currently I’m on the max dose, however some of the other Meds that others rave about weren’t so good for me personally

I had a brief flirtation with Metformin (whilst being diagnosed) and it can cause some (ahem) issues but many people have no problems at all - there are many other medications that can be prescribed if you really don't get on with it though so don't fret
