As of last week my metformin was increased from one tablet twice a day two tablets twice a day these tablets are 500mg.

Since then every night from about 2 a.m. till 10 a.m i have had really bad gas and heartburn and acid reflux but the most concerning symptom of all is my heart rate has been elevated from 60 to 90 +

I had a heart attack about 5/6 years ago and I'm on medication for that as well. During the day I'm usually perfectly fine no gas no indigestion or heartburn and my heart rate is around 60.

I'm guessing this would be the metformin at work? Is it something else going on?

Hello @Seansmit17 ,

Thank you so much for joining. I am so sorry to hear about your gas and heartburn. The worst for me is when I experience it right before bed and I can only imagine how difficult it must be for you.

I have included a link regarding some side effects of metformin. I hope this helps.

Welcome to the forum @Seansmit17

It is quite common for people to experience some gastric upheaval from ‘metfartin’, particularly if doses increase rapidly. Some people seem to get more trouble with Met than others, and mercifully, for most people the upset stomach settles down after a number of weeks.

Many members seem to find it helps to take metformin with a fairly substantial meal, but one which only contains a moderate or low amount of carbohydrate.

Hope your symptoms ease soon. Let us know how things go.
