Hi all just wondering if somebody could advise me ? I was diagnosed Type 2 in October this year but not given any medication by my GP so following the good advice of you kind folks on here i bought a meter changed my diet and have lost over 2 stone and have got my blood sugar levels to around 6.2 up till 7.2 on average after meals ... My problem is my fasting levels which are always around 7.9 to 8.2 on waking despite only having a cup of tea or something before bed ....My GP says i dont need medication but at times i feel a bit spaced out as if im drunk but im not ? Do you think Metaformin would help stabilise my fasting levels or is he right ?
many thanks for any replies and a happy new year to you and yours when it gets heree !

Sounds like the dawn phenomenon Jill where our liver starts pumping out glucose we don’t need for waking. I don’t use Metformin and have slightly higher waking numbers than I’d like compared to daytime. Maybe try a small snack before bed to counteract this. I find an oatcake and a piece of cheese can help. Worth a try. Good luck! Not sure why you feel spaced out though. Is this just on waking?

Thanks Amigo and yes its just on waking and ive never really had anything like this before .... family joke that im spaced out at the best of times but joking aside i feel a wee bit dizzy with it too so wondered if it was the glucose ?

I’d mention it next time you see your doctor but between 7.9 and 8.2 are high numbers but not desperately so.
It took me about 4 months or more to get the morning levels down. They’re usually the last to drop.
