At risk of diabetes
I'd like to know if metformin continues to work over time, or if it is a drug that stops working after a number of months/years.

Low carb didn't solve my problem of high fasting blood sugar and I've started taking metformin. So far, so good.

Now I'm afraid it's a honeymoon period effect and that in a few months, or years, it stops working.

I continue to eat low carb and that, I know, will be the case for the rest of my life.

You say you are 'at risk of diabetes' so do you know what your Hba1C is ?
High fasting blood glucose ? what sort of fasting/morning level do you get ?
When you say low carb, how many grams of carb per day are you having?

Sorry for the third degree but it helps to understand what might be going on.
