Metformin doesn't seem to do anything

Well you can't see it doing anything because what it does is assist your body to use it's own insulin, to better effect. It can't work on its own though in most cases hence we all usually need a combination of diet, exercise (and drugs if we need them) to achieve best control over our blood glucose. Depends how out of control the BG is as to exactly what works best - and just because something works for you or me does not mean it will work the same for everyone.

Hi. I agree healthy eating and if able exercise is best for those with and without duabetes .
Metformin doesn’t work the same as say insulin, by actually lowering a persons blood glucose, it works by making people more sensitive to their own or injected insulin and by preventing the liver putting out so much glucose ( one of the livers many jobs is producing glucose)

And no Metformin doesn’t work for everyone, but it does for many.

What dose of Metformin are you on

Metformin helped me when I was first diagnosed in 2009. Diet and exercise helped me to stop taking it.

Twelve years later, I am back on metformin and it is helping me again whilst I shift the pounds that had crept back on. My morning bg readings have already improved from 9s to 6s before breakfast.

Hopefully, I will be able to stop taking meds again before the end of this year. But I will see how my HbA1c is doing first.

Andy 🙂
