Has anyone had to stop taking metformin because of side effects, e.g. indigestion and acid reflux.

Hi,

No but I do get side effects as we all do taking metformin, there is a slow realease one that your GP could put you on.

Apologies I have just noticed you are already on the slow release metformin.

Yes. Before I was re-diagnosed I had an awful time with both Metformin and Glucophage SR. They sort of worked briefly and then things got worse again, but worst of all was the side effects. They made me so ill I just wanted to end it all and I should have taken out shares in the companies that make indigestion remedies. There was also nausea and dreadful plumbing upsets.

There are other possibilities you could ask about such as Byetta/Bydureon or Victoza.
