Hi I have Type 2 Diabetes and I am currently taking 2 x Metformin twice a day. I have a bug just now and feel a little nauseous and weak so don't feel like eating. Is it okay to take my Metformin without eating? I would appreciate your comments.
Hi. Sorry to hear your not well. I hope you feel better soon.
You should find these sick day rules helpful. http://www.mydiabetesmyway.scot.nhs.uk/resources/leaflets/SickDayRulesForType2.asp
Are you able to test your blood glucose yourself ?
It's best to continue taking your tablets as often illness raises our BG (blood glucose) perhaps take them with milk
If your at all worried, contact your team, gp or out of hours service.
If I may just add to what Lin wrote ..I keep and carefully re-read the Patient Information Leaflet included with my Metformin package so I know what to do in case a problem arises.
