I started on Metformin SR on 14th May this year, one 500mg once a day and then after ten days I increased the dose to twice a day. I’ve noticed I keep blinking trying to clear my vision in my left eye , almost as if I have a film there. Will this go once my body adjusts to the medication?

Ive not heard many people mention this relating to metformin.

Elevated BG can certainly cause blurred eyesight.

If you are unsure if it might be related to the tablets you could check the Patient Information Leaflet, which will list the known side-effects and how likely they are.

Hope your eyes clear soon. There’s a lot of pollen about at the moment, not sure if that affects you?

Are you sure you haven't got a cataract?

My. Blood sugar is around 8 Is that classified as elevated? I have read this can happen so I wanted to know if anyone else had the problem. Pollen wow maybe although I never had this before,

8 is towards the top of the target range for T2, but not massively high.

I certainly wouldnt expect any eye blurriness at those levels.

Aaah, well - with elevated BG for long enough, the shape of our eyes changes! This happens very gradually so we don't notice. However - when we are diagnosed with diabetes and start to normalise our BG again, we DO notice our eyes changing - so we just have to be patient and wait for them to recover. Took mine approx. 5 weeks by which time I was bored out of my brain, they hadn't invented daytime telly or video recorders, but in any case I couldn't even focus on the telly or to knit or sew or crochet, or read. (Well I could see the telly, just not the programmes on it.)

I’ve had my cataracts removed so it’s not that
Sometimes a film will grow over the lens which needs to be removed by a few laser pings. It takes less than 5 mins and quite painless. I had this happen after I had had surgery and one eye it happened five years after the cataract was removed.
Another simple solution is to get some eye drops/gel and treat as a dry eye and see if that helps. Eyes need to be checked though so ask GP or ring optician for advice.
