I take 1 500mg tablet with my breakfast. As the day goes on, my readings are usually all within the normal range of 4-7mmol. Because my appetite has reduced, I've gotten into the habit of having lunch late. I work evenings so I'm not up early and breakfast/tablet are taken @ 10.00am. If its my turn to walk the dog, if I test before I go I'll usually be in the high 5's - a gentle 25 minute walk and when I come back I'm getting 3.3 - 3.6. Should I be worried about this? Do I need to start eating before I go or is this not regarded as being particularly low for a T2?

As you are just on a low dose of metformin I would say that this would be low, but fine as you would be unlikely to drop lower and it is similar to the lower threshold for someone who didn't have diabetes.

Might be worth having a word with your doctor or nurse to see if the metformin tablet is necessary with the levels you are getting generally 🙂

Thanks - the only spike I get is after breakfast with my Cheerios or Weetabix.. Not the best choices for brekkie but I'm not ready to lose them yet..!

On the upside, I've started losing weight..! I have an app for my phone called Fat Secret and it allows me to track what I'm eating. I'm less likely to go wild when I'm accounting for everything! 😉

Good luck with the weight loss 🙂 It's always better when you are aware of what you are eating, so the app sounds handy!

well done on the weight loss! 🙂

Aww thank you! I know I can do it (twelve years ago I lost over 9 stones) but maintaining the willpower is the hard bit. Thankfully, it appears that the Metformin has reduced my appetite so that makes things a bit easier.. Time will tell!

Keep in contact with GP or whoever prescibed your metformin, taking your blood glucose readings to each appointment, as it may be appropriate to reduce doses as your weight decreases - and you may even be able to give up at some point in the future. And congratulations on weight loss and increased well being - a prize in itself!
