can anyone help me my metformin seem to be making me sick ,this morning l have diarrhea and feeling sick l take 2 tabs with evening meal

How long have you been taking it Rosie? For most folk the side effects wear off after a few weeks, but some never get rid of them. You might also get the effects back if you've had to increase your dose recently but, again, they should wear off.

If you've been taking them for a while and are still having problems then you should talk to your GP about possible alternatives such as the slow release version. There are options out there so don't be afraid to ask the doctor.

Hi rosie1 - I find that if I avoid carbs with the Metformin they are much easier to tolerate.

In fact I often take them hrs before any food, not sure if this will help you.

Just a thought do you think you maybe coming down with something?

If this persists I would go and see the doctor 🙂

I had serious problems for several years and my GP tried to tell me it was IBS, funny how it started at the same time I was prescribed Metformin. The IBS went away when I stopped taking Metformin, obviously another coincidence.

I was put back on Metformin in 2008 by which time I was taking Cocodomol for various aches and pains and the Codeine's side effects negated the Metformin side effects. Last July I lowered my carb intake to 80 mg a day and that helped but strangely I've had a few problems again lately.

I've heard several other people say they've started to have problems as well. I wonder if they've changed the stuff they put with it?

In the meantime there's the sustained release version (SR) and lowering carbs will help.

I don't know, but are you sposed to take all of them at once? Wouldn't it be better to say have one in the morning and one in the evening?

2 tablets with the evening meal is the recommended starting dosage. I believe it's effect is accumulative as it improves the sensitivity to insulin as opposed to increasing the amount of insulin produced.
