Woke in the middle hours, damm that metformin!
Oh ! The wind doth blow, as much under the duvet, as outside, some right window rattlers!
Luckily I live alone ,so no one to embarrass, except myself.

I am sure it's the metfartin is responcable, I had a little break beginning Sept, also took a holiday from Metformin , as I had left it late to reorder, I felt much better, without it but started again when I got it reordered.
At the moment ,it's 'Catch 22' , I was sent a letter from Surgery about HBac test, I quote, ' time for you to take a blood test, ring diabetes nurse for telephone appointment, & arrange a test, tho' at this moment we can't offer any, this isn't urgent'.
So ,unless I become really ill, I won't be able to discuss coming off the meds, without knowing my bloods.
If I know it's come down from 56 mmol ,then I can redouble my efforts to change my diet, then ask to come off the meds, and cut down on greenhouse gases, I AM human not a cow!

Why don't you ring and se what happens their idea and yours re urgent may be differnt, you may get one in a couple of weeks.

Oh ,I will try, when I have an hour or 5 to spare!
It's a very busy large practice, wasn't easy before Covid, be almost impossible now!

I recognise those sentiments unfortunately - don't live in Coventry do you?

On the other hand, if you aren't struggling for approx £20-£25, you could invest yourself in a personal blood glucose meter and do some home testing. There are two, both only available online (not over the counter at a pharmacy) which forum members have found pretty reliable and many have used one or the other to assist them to reverse their Type 2 diabetes. You'll fairly soon (a week-ish) be able to find out whether it looks like you have or not, if the latter, the meter will be useful helping you identify any problem areas that need more assistance from you.

Have a look for the Gluco Navii (yes, double i !) or the Spirit Heathcare Tee 2.

I am really reluctant to go down that route, but ultimately, I may have to, especially if I want to get of the meds.

I am still getting my head around my condition, the LCHF diet is proving difficult, as my appitite is totally shot, I am not particularly keen on salads, but I have cut back on eating high volume carbs, I used to regularly have porridge for breakfast ,specially if I am going to be busy ,or go cycling, biscuits & custard tarts were a common treat, but I only have them now when I am very VERY naughty!
Breakfast is usually 2 slices wholemeal toast with peanut butter, sometimes with banana.
Evening meals at the moment are usually stir fried, without carbs, but always a slosh of sweet and sour sauce.
Winter's coming so casseroles, & things like that will be back on , making risotto with pearl barley instead of rice is very filling.
I know what i should do, I just need a good kick up the arse to get going, but as I am single ,that's proving difficult to do!

I really recomend getting a blood glucose meter as your food choices are so high in carbs - I would have levels positively stratospheric.
Why add grain to your meals? For most type twos they are a real problem.
Banana is high carb, so is most bread - and how can you make a stirfry without carbs, particularly when you add a sauce?
I suspect that an evaluation of the foods you consume is in order, and might prove rather beneficial both to your blood glucose, your eventual Hba1c and any argument you want to make about the Metformin tablets being needed.

Are you reluctant since you may have to face that whatever you just ate is doing you harm? Would you simply just like to remain ignorant?

There are absolutely less tortuous and damaging ways of dealing with Type 2 diet - for instance not giving up absolutely everything you like entirely but instead having a bit less of whatever's increasing your Blood Glucose, until you get to a point where X amount of whatever, doesn't cause an increase. And that is exactly why we all recommend getting a meter - not to shame you but to teach you what's OK and what ain't.

Some folk enjoy a banana, NP - but it sends my BG into outer space - cos every one of us is different in how we react to this that and the other.

No ,is not the fear of what I am doing , more the case of not knowing what I AM doing!
I eat in moderation ,often not finishing what I have cooked, and these are not monster portions.
With respect to 'Drummer's comments ,I think you have misread what I wrote about my current diet, the things I cook are often of the DUK menu finder, I rarely eat white bread ,rice ,potatoes, cake ,or biscuits these days.
I also tend to skip evening meals every 2nd day, and sometimes make an effort when I do, apart from wholemeal toast, ( which I make myself) or bacon and eggs for breakfast a cheesy snack lunchtime, I tend not to eat a large supper, I do think I don't eat enough, if what I should, I just don't feel hungry.
I would welcome more details of what you do eat Drummer.

After a lifetime of eating what I thought was good for me, then to have to re educate my diet as diabetic friendly , is really a major challenge, more so when you live by yourself, you don't have the support to change,
I do have family close to me ,but they do their own thing

Sounds like you are working really hard at your diabetes management @Grldtnr. Hope you can continue to work towards a med-free future if that is what you would like.

Choosing whether or not to self-monitor is a very personal thing - but it is just away of obtaining information, and if you opted to go down that route there are plenty here who would happily offer their thoughts on any BG readungs you chose to share. 🙂
