hi guys lve just got a meter for the first time, bit nervise about using it,doctor showed me b sugar was 6.9.and the sickly feeling they think its bactira sorry cant spell😱

You'll soon get the hang of it. Just make sure your hands are clean and dry before you start and remember to keep a note of the results. How often has the doctor said you should test?

tryed to use my meter but didnt get it right, find it hard to get blood on the little strips, when l done it it said EROR dr wonts me to do it 2hours after meals cant see me getting on with it,so feeling a bit down.:(

What meter do you have?

I didn't get on with one first time I ever used one but 10 years later it's just another 'toy' to help keep me healthy & alive

I find it easiest to place my finger at the side of the strip. My strips have a little bump at the side to take up the blood. It's also best to prick the side of your finger away from the nail, you get a better blood drop that way.

This advice on pricking your finger and getting blood out might be useful: http://loraldiabetes.blogspot.co.uk/2006/10/painless-pricks.html

I always struggle if my hands are cold and first thing in the morning. Often first thing in the morning I'll prick and get the blood drop ready and then insert the strip so I don't run out of time and get the error message.

Some meters need more blood then others, mine (Freestyle Lite) will happily take a single small drop.

hi lauras, its called one touch, says ultra easy, may be its me lm no good with gagets, kids and animal lm fine

I had one of those when mate broke my aviva nano.

A weird tip but when I struggle to get blood out I milk my finger but not touching round the area I've pricked until I get a nice drop of blood.

Like mark says leave putting your strip in til you get blood out.

It's just something new to you, deep breath & you'll master it soon & if you want help, there are enough people who self test here to give you tips 🙂

tryed again to take a reading keeps going wrong keeps sayin er and l got a good blood sample, l can see me throwing it at the wall ,not joking😡

Which error code are you getting?

*edit* From a quick peek of the manual online

Er 1 is faulty meter
Er 2 looks like faulty strip/faulty meter
Er 3 is applying the blood too soon
Er 4 is either meter too cold or not getting the blood on the strip properly
Er 5 is either faulty strip or not enough blood

l will try to read the user guide tomorrow when l feel less strest cant face tonight thanks for your help

Er 2 is apparently faulty strip or used strip.

Assuming you are using a fresh strip, I've had that one a couple of times if I've managed to get some blood on the strip before I insert it.

Hi Rosie
I'm needle phobic so I was really worried, but I have managed to master it most of the time. I still mess up sometimes. I have found washing my hands in warm water and letting my fingers hang down for a bit helps to get the blood out. Keep trying and you will get there. There are very special super people on this forum who will help you. I will never be able to thank them enough. Diabetes is an absolute pain but unfortunately it is not going to go away so I feel that I have to do all I can not to get any of the complications and that includes pricking fingers. You are on the right road taking control of your diabetes. You can and will do it. Good luck and I send you a friendly hug. 🙂
