Hi just been prescribed metformin hba 55 down to 51 500 mg
Dr said I have good control target 48
DN recommends 1000 mg
Confused was diet control 12 years . Not sure whether to leave metaformin just started and do diet control until next review
Would welcome any thoughts you may have please ?

There really seems no need for metformin with an HbA1C of 51 if there is more movement that could be done with your diet in reducing your carb intake.

I reduced from 50mmol/mol to 42 in 3 months by following those principal with no medication.

Don't want to muddy waters, but take a look at my hba1c numbers, still on 3 metformin, only reduced by 1 tab last year . No sensible answer when each year I asked why metformin not reduced. Go figure...

Since metformin is nearly free to the NHS (only a few pence per tablet), perhaps someone thinks you might just as well take it as not?!

Your thoughts as good a reason as any. I was more curious as to the thinking but 5 years down the road I have arrived at the conclusion there is no thinking behind it. I pick my battles, this is one 'battle' I will ignore.
