Hello. Diagnosed T2 in April with a HbA1c of 104. I was put on Metformin and my blood glucose levels are improving but still not great. However due to continuing stomach issues, I’ve been put on Metabet SR. Reading the info on it, it states it’s for pre diabetic folk. A bit worried I shouldn’t have been prescribed these. Anyone else had this experience ?

It is just the trade name of a slow release version of metformin so should give you less stomach issues. It is commonly prescribed for people with a diabetic diagnosis who can't tolerate the standard version.

Nothing to be worried about. It’s simply a brandname for one of the versions of slow release Metformin (along with Glucophage and Sukkarto for example).

Hope you find it easier on the tum, and that it helps you manage your glucose levels.

It’s worth remembering that metformin doesn’t work directly on meals, it helps the metabolism ‘in the background’ by improving insulin sensitivity and helping to reduce glucose output from the liver. As such adjustments you are making to your diet are really important in terms of your glucose management. Eg reducing your overall carbohydrate intake (not just sugars) to a level which your metabolism can cope with.

Thanks for that. Stomach is a little better in the slow release. Just my glucose levels are being stubborn. Have made big changes with nutrition, so hopefully will stabilise soon.
