More than 20,000 patients failed to turn up for their initial appointments at Royal Liverpool and Broadgreen hospitals in the first eight months of 2014.

Almost 13,000 missed their first appointments at Aintree hospital, with the figure reaching 10,180 for Wirral University Teaching Hospital NHS Foundation Trust.

The shocking figures, compiled from NHS England statistics, reveal patients in Merseyside to be among the worst in the country for missing initial hospital appointments.

In the year to September, patients missed 79,372 first appointments at Merseyside hospitals, as well as 198,510 follow-up appointments. Patients also failed to turn up for arranged admissions on 5,820 occasions.

Pretty shocking :(

Oh Pete's one of them on Coventry's figures.

Mind you - the hospital didn't tell him he had an appointment in the first place - first we knew about it he received a text one day when we came back from the beach in the S of France, reminding him about this appointment 2 days hence.

Didn't even know what it was for, since the letter telling him he was going to get this appointment wasn't sent until after we left the country, on the 3-month holiday we made sure we told the consultant we were going on well before we went!
