A mental health trust, which has been criticised over plans to cut 400 jobs across Norfolk and Suffolk, spent almost ?8m on temporary staff over the last three years, it has emerged.

Officials from Norfolk and Suffolk NHS Foundation Trust said they had spent ?3.93m on 56 locum staff in Norfolk and Waveney since 2010 and ?3.98m on locums in Suffolk.

The new figures come as the mental health trust looks to reduce its budget by 20pc over the next four years and cut around 400 posts from its 4,000 workforce as part of a major restructure.
