Hi, looking for info on type 1 diabetes and menopause if anyone can help?

I never had much trouble at all with lady hormones at any stage of life so far - but of course some people have their BG shoot up every month - so it's reasonable to expect that menopause is going to be like puberty in reverse - erratic amounts at unpredictable times I suppose. I think you probably have to just fire-fight with fast acting - but your DNS will probably have come across what to do, like they do for virtually any situation their patients find themselves in, so - have you asked her/him?

What probs have you actually got that you didn't before?

My blood sugars have been pretty good for over 20 years, however in the last year or so they havnt been so good despite not changing anything in particular ( diet/exercise) this has been alongside other menopausal symptoms like fatigue-insomnia-night sweats etc! Have just been prescribed estrogen patch and progesterone tabs and was wondering whether anyone had any experience of how this will affect my blood sugars. I also take Ramopril and a statin.

Sorry no advice as I was diagnosed Type 2 after I had been through the worst part of my menopause. I did suffer horrendously with the hot flushes, still get them occasionally, (not sure if they are menopause related or diabetes related now).

But welcome to the forum and I hope the patches work.

Shouldn't affect your BG any more than were you pre-menopausal at a time of the month (ie most of it) when your lady hormones weren't in overdrive before your period - personally mine didn't appear to go into overdrive and affect my BG anyway - but there again I was on the pill for most of those years LOL

HRT patches - cease to be effective when exposed to the sun - so if you're eg having a beach holiday somewhere lovely warm and sunny etc you'd have to stick the patch where it wouldn't be exposed to the rays - ie under your costume somewhere eg on your buttocks. When you happen to be naturist then the answer is HRT implants (the best solution even if you're not naturist) or if not, tablets.

My GP told me that hrt isn’t recommended for me because of diabetes. Luckily I don’t really suffer from menopause symptoms apart from one, which was the reason for the conversation but is liveable with.

I'm sorry, I can't help you Donna with being dx Type2 after menapause. But the menapause is a rotten time for women especially if you don't have an understanding partner ~ duvet off ~ legs out ~ duvet on ~ hot flushes ~ dripping with perspiration ~ cranky ~ need I go on?:D🙄 Hope some one can come up with answers for you Donna.🙂

My FEMALE gynae started it by discussing it with me pre-op and popping some in my scar before she sewed me up and told my Dr is the signing-off letter they needed to replace them whenever I started to get symptoms of menopause - between 5 and 6 months usually, though by then have to say the testosterone was wearing off (cos that as well as the female ones certainly does assist libido) as that didn't stop dead in it's tracks LOL - but that's about the only way we can get it once all the equipment's stopped working. (or been forcibly removed LOL)
