Hi All

about a year ago i was given a memoir humapen which had a digital reader and this would tell me when i last injected and by how much. I got this from my DNS as i kept on accidently double dosing or not injecting when I thought I had - I am a very dizzy blonde!!

This snapped in half recently and when my doc perscribed me a new one we were told by teh chemist they are no longer being made!

Does anyone else have/ know of another company that make these digital insulin pens? i am on humalog lispro

thanks

There was a problem with production/battery reliability. They are not expecting to have the new version ready to ship before next year.

I swapped to Humalog last year to get the memoir function.

Unfortunately the only other similarly equipped pen on the market is the half unit Novopen Echo (though that would not fit Humalog) but it is not available in the UK, and Novo Nordisk still seem to have no plans to release it here :(

Story about the shortage of Memoir pens on the DUK site here: http://www.diabetes.org.uk/About_us...to-Lillys-HumaPen-Memoir-lead-to-UK-shortage/

If no one else here knows where to get one, you may be able to source one from somewhere like Amazon or Ebay. Good luck in finding one.

yea worth a try caroline but not happy having to pay for it when I had one prescibe dby the doc :(

Hi ...

Would it be worth phoning the manufacturers, they may be able to help. I know I've phoned a couple of times and they have always been brilliant.

Wonder if that was the same problems they had with their first pen!

There was a predessessor to the menoir pen, that had a digital read out/memory but it was pulled before 2007/8 because of problems with incorrect recording/storing of dose and timing or something similar to that!

A lad I was on DAFNE was saying about them, as he had; had one broken it and been unable to find another one.. And this was the explination given for the withdrawal and why they weren't available..

such a shame when something so useful (made a huge difference to me, especially in terms of peace of mind as to fact that i'd done my insulin when i couldnt remmeber!) become extinct!

hopefully a new one will get produced in the near future 🙄

fingers crossed! x

The issue as far as I know was that the batteries they were using were a bit flakey in some pens, especially where the pens got cold/people lived in cold climates. It meant that the display sometimes did not work (not ideal when it is how you dial up the dose). People had to re-set frequently, and if all else failed 'count the clicks' to work out what dose they were injecting.

I think they decived to have a bit more of a go at it once they started looking into it a bit further, hence the extra delay.

Personally I would have loved to be able to mark the doses which were 'air shots' in the stored record (by pressing and holding the end button till the 'airshot' marker appeared on screen or whatever). Currently you have to remember which one or two unit doses were air and which were real.

Am I being an even dizzier blonde(the profile picture is outdated!) but are these memoir pens ones which cartridges fit in? Surely this function wouldn't be on disposable pens?

It sounds a fab function and a useful one for me but I use the throw aways!!!

Yes it's a reusable pen. Battery is supposed to last 3 years.
