Hi I have been diabetic type 1 for 40 years aand have been using omnipod5 and Dexcom relatively successfully. However recent spiking surges are worrying and the hospital suggested Medtronic might improve things. I am interested in opinions on both and suggestions to help. Wendy

Hi @Angus and a warm welcome to the forum.

Hopefully someone with the relevant experience will pop along shortly and be able to give you some help and advice

Hi and welcome.

Are you using the Omnipod and Dexcom as a Hybrid Closed Loop (HCL) or in manual mode? Are you finding that the Omnipod HCL isn't aggressive enough to bring levels down when they go high? I think others on the forum have found that.
Which insulin are you using in the Omnipod?

Do the raised levels happen towards the end of the 3 days of each Omnipod? There was a thread about that recently. I think the problem with the Omnipod is that you have no option to change the type of cannula if your body/insulin starts to react to the cannula in them.

You say you were using O5 & Dex 5 relatively successfully up until recently, do you know what is causing those spikes, or has your pump clinic explained what could be likely cause?

Im O5 Dex 6 user myself using fiasp in pump, if spikes are after eating then bolusing a bit earlier or splitting bolus for certain meals that are higher in fat works, even making a simple change from say novorapid to fiasp can make a small difference, these are some strategies I've put in place to help dampen down post meal spikes.

If it's anything else probably best to explain so folks here can help.

Of the two hybrid loops I have used my body seems to prefer the combination of MM780G and Simplera, to tSlim and Dexcom G6.

The tSlim was great, but needed more manual intervention. The MM780G seems to act more firmly, and self-adjusts basal after a couple of days of pondering, and my levels are improved with less effort from me.
