New here Type 1 for just over 3 years. Diagnosed at 38. Have recently started using Medtronic 780g with the G4 sensor and having issues with the sensor. I'd be interested to know if anyone else on this system is having issues with sensor changes. I had one last week that didn't start after the 2 hours and wouldn't accept BG reading for Calibration. Medtronic like to assume user error but it's the 2nd time in 2 months I've had the issue. It's a real shame because the hybrid closed loop on the pump is amazing.

There are times when the sensor doesn’t work or finishes early. It can be due to the filament not going in, a bleeder (although I find they often work well) or the system is not happy that the readings are okay, in which case it will put you back into manual and ask for a BG, or ask you to change sensor.

I have always phoned for a replacement and not had a problem. You can also order these online. They will want the serial number and the batch no. And possibly the expiry date. I just make a note of these when I insert any sensor.

I have had occasions when there have been a run of these. I am content that as they closed loop is making important decisions about my basal, it needs to know that things are working well and happy that it asks for a replacement if it is not working well.

And ….

Welcome to the forum. Glad that you have found us. Do ask any questions that arise. Nothing is considered silly on here. Just ask.

Like you I find they often work hybrid closed loop very effective, and have been using it for about five years now. I certainly wouod not to be without it now.

Have you had problems getting replacements? They like to know that the sensor is ‘positioned on your upper arm’.

Sorry to hear you’ve had a couple of duff G4 sensors @VIX75

I’m on the Simpleras, and had about 9 months of exemplary sensor performance with every one running full term. But just recently I’ve had a run where many (most?) sensors have ended early. Medtronic have been great replacing them - I use the WeCare app to order replacements.

Hope you get a run of good ones for a while.

As @SB2015 says, it’s important that the system can trust the flow of information, because of the decisions it’s making on our behalf. So I think sometimes it can be a bit nervy about sensor wobbles, and is inclined to play it safe, and ask for a fresh one if in any doubt.
