i was taken off metformin last week and given gliclazide 80mg a day,and also have to take bs reading 3 times a day 3 days of the week.my question is why just do a reading 3 days a week,and my reading are still high is 7 days not enough time for some result from the meds.

It may be that your doctor wants ro see if there is a pattern and only needs a few readings. Have you asked your doctor why he wants you to do it like this?
 
It may be that the doctor is being cautious and you have been put on a dose of gliclizide that is not yet having much effect on your levels. Gliclizide can cause low blood sugars, and doctors seem to think that this is the worst thing on earth to suffer from 🙄

When has the doctor told you to test? On waking? Before and/or after meals? To be truly useful, testing should be on waking, before and one or two hours after eating - this way you can determine how your levels are affected by what you have just eaten and your body's ability to tolerate the type and amount of the carbs in the meal. Have you read Jennifer's Advice and Maggie Davey's letter? If not, it is worth doing so. Also, read Test,Review, Adjust by Alan S for a guide to efficient testing. Testing three times a day on three days of the week is insufficient if you want to build up a useful picture of how your food choices affect you.

Do you drive? If so then you definitely need to be testing more than 3 times a day. As gliclizide can induce low blood sugar levels you are legally bound to test before driving, every time you drive, to ensure you are safe to do so. If your doctor has not told you this, then you should go back to them and insist on a larger supply of test strips.
 
caroline, i did not think of asking the dr the question till i got home.
northerer i am hoping the meds work soon to make a difference,i am to test on waking befor breakfast again at lunch time or main meal,then before i go to bed,then before i go on a long journey of hour or more.thank you for the links i will go and read them

I am starting on the same tablets today. Lets hope we both get good results.
I picked my prescription up today as they wanted me to start taking them as soon as possible. Got appointment with Diabetic Nurse on Monday to find out more details about when to test and hypo's.
