Relationship to Diabetes
Type 2
Hi! New type 2..very anxious about it all.
Why do some people start on medication straight away and others just diet control?
Im symptomatic tired and feel a bit jittery inside, got high BG readings 14-30mmol
Urine 2+gluc 2+protein ( protein since last year..am sure my kidneys are already affected)..been told to diet for 3 months?
Is that normal?

Hi Josie,
I’m not sure there is a ‘normal’ with diabetes, we are all quite different in how we respond to diet and medication and I think a lot also depends on the doc you see, some go directly to medication and others try the diet route first.
With diet, it’s carbohydrates you need to manage, not just obvious sugars but rice, pasta, bread, potatoes will all push your numbers up, fruit is also high in natural sugar so be careful how much you have, a rule of thumb is around two small pieces a day. Exercise will also help bring your blood glucose down, I’m not a gym person but I enjoy a dog walk so try to do around 30 - 60 mins when I can.
Best advice I can give is to read as much as you can here, everything you need to know is on this forum so read and ask questions :D
