Well they only ever offer them to anyone whose cholesterol level is higher than is considered OK. The reason why that level is lower for us than people without D, is that we are at greater risk of suffering cardiac problems and/or strokes than folk without D. This latter is known, hence the idea is to prevent it happening in the first place. But - nobody actually knows whether you, me or anyone else will suffer such a thing this week, next week, or ever. Simple fact is still that as our bodies age, it naturally becomes more likely anyway.
