sounds like you have been having a bad time of things Lyn and understandably fed up with it all. Have you tried the modified release metformin? It is often tolerated better than the normal release one with less gastro side effects. Metofrmin isn;t the only option of drugs so I don't think you have to put up with this.

I hope things will start to get better for you

How offensive...

I am not saying I am suicidal, just that I don't much care any more. I can't get excited about a life lived on vegetables (not without cheese anyway!).

I am just totally fed up with the whole business.

I can't even begin to tell you how offensive this is to me - I know having diabetes can be hard when you are new at it - but i have had it for 30+ years - it is not easy, but there is so much worse that you can have in this life. My mother is bi-polar and I think that is much worse than diabetes - just a personal opinion.

Daisy, I don't think Lyn was being offensive? It's true that there are worse things, and many people feel a sense of relief at being diagnosed with a condition that, to a greater or lesser extent, can be controlled. But knowing that there are others worse off doesn't necessarily make life easier for a person when they are feeling down about it. I have been bipolar for over 30 years, but recognise that depression can come in many forms, and situational depression such as Lyn is feeling can be just as powerful as my 'brain chemistry' lows. Depression, whether short or long-term is very real for many people with chronic conditions.

I apologise, Daisy, for offending you, and thank you Northerner for your kind words.

I am embarrassed now to see what I wrote yesterday. I was absolutely rock-bottom. Not much better today but can see how whingy and sorry for myself I sounded. People don't want to hear it I know, specially if they have worse problems to deal with themselves.

I originally only wanted to say something about having problems with my medication, but it all came pouring out.

Re the modified release Metformin, the Diabetic Nurse at the surgery wanted to try me on that, but it seems she has been over-ruled by Mr Big at the hospital clinic and my (technically but I rarely see him) GP (who is not the same doctor who was unhappy to up the dose). All these conflicting opinions do not inspire confidence in the treatment.

Lyn, please don't be embarrassed, and you're not whinging. No disrespect to Daisy, but only you can know how you're feeling, and when you are feeling depressed, it's very difficult to out things in perspective. Depression is not uncommon with diabetes, particularly when it's making your day-to-day life such a misery. I thought one of the positive things about the forum is that you can talk about how you're feeling, and other issues that you can't perhaps talk about elsewhere. Could you ask to see a dietician and/or ask for further investigations to be done about why it affects you so badly. Don't give up and keep asking until they get it right for you. 🙂

goodness me i just browsed through and i cant recall whos it is who has to take 4 x metformin a day 😱😱 but gosh i struggle with swallowing one
