My medication has recently changed to Gliclazide and Linagliptin from Metformin and sitagliptin. Now getting dizzy and lightheaded. Could this be a side effect of the meds.

Hi. Sorry to hear you are having dizzy spells.

Do you test your levels when you feel like this?
Hypos are possible with Gliclazide, so if you feel strange or unwell you should be testing straight away with a finger prick to check that your levels are not low.
Gliclazide works by encouraging your pancreas to produce more insulin, so it is possible to have hypos, particularly if you take the medication but then skip a meal.

Is there a particular time when it happens?

Yes do check my levels. Only have occasional a low level and that’s at 4,fairly low for me which I amble to do this.

This could be a side effect of now taking two different medication which induce the pancreas to produce more insulin rather than just the one sitagliptin and the metformin which acted in a different way in helping the body use the insulin it produced more effectively and reducing release of glucose by the liver so you may need to monitor your blood glucose levels a bit more regularly to see if the dizziness is associated with low blood glucose. You may need to eat more carbs if that is the case.

Sorry to hear about the dizzy spells and lightheadedness you’ve been having :(

Have you got any kind of follow-up arranged to see how you are getting on with the changed meds?

Sounds like a chat with your GP or Diabetes Nurse would be helpful.
