They will attend a roadshow on Monday and Tuesday at Old Hall Street, Hanley, between 9am and 5pm, in a bid to find the estimated 1,700 people in the city suffering Type 2 of the disease without knowing it.

Anyone found to be at high risk will be advised to visit their GP for further tests.

The event is being staged by national charity Diabetes UK which has been handed a ?413,722 grant from the Big Lottery Fund to support 70 similar roadshows nationwide.

Peter Shorrick, the charity's Midlands regional manager, said: "Diabetes is one of the biggest health challenges facing us today.
