i have been prescribed medical cannabis (not for diabetes) since September last year, just wondering if anyone else has been prescribed medical cannabis and is seeing any positive benefits in their blood glucose control or is it just a coincidence?

Welcome @Dodders88, a similar conversation was recently had between members here which might be of help:

Perhaps whatever you were prescribed it for was elevating your levels, and that is improved, so your BGs are better because of that rather than directly lowering them?

that could be a reason but as its for my anxiety and that hasn't improved (some days maybe but others it is a whole lot worse).

I have recently been prescribed this for chronic nerve damage - haven't started yet. However I was in hospital about 7 years ago with DKA and my diabetic consultant, who is now retired, told me that cannabis is known to lower blood sugars but at thr time there wasn't much research done in the UK it was America he mentioned. He explained it when someone who smokes it and they hit the munchies, that's like us when we take a hypo, it's cause it lowers their blood sugars. In Amsterdam if you feel sick or dizzy the cafes etc give you a bottle of full fat coke to bring your blood sugar up.
I can't wait to start using it to see the benefits. I lost my best friend on Friday due to type 1 diabetic complications so I'm doing everything I possibly can to help my own health
Good luck and I hope the sugars continue to stay in range

I found this regarding Cannabis and Diabetes:

A number of animal-based studies and some human studies have highlighted a number of potential health benefits of cannabis for diabetes.

Research by the American Alliance for Medical Cannabis (AAMC) has suggested that cannabis can help:

  • Stabilise blood sugars – a large body of anecdotal evidence is building among people with diabetes to support this.
  • Suppress some of the arterial inflammation commonly experienced by people with diabetes, which can lead to cardiovascular disease
  • Prevent nerve inflammation and ease the pain of neuropathy – the most common complication of diabetes – by stimulating receptors in the body and brain.
  • Lower blood pressure over time, which can help reduce the risk of heart disease and other diabetes complications
  • Keep blood vessels open and improve circulation.
  • Relieve muscle cramps and the pain of gastrointestinal (GI) disorders
  • Be used to make topical creams to relieve neuropathic pain and tingling in hands and feet
Cannabis compounds have also been shown to reduce intra-ocular pressure (the fluid pressure within the eye) considerably in people with glaucoma – a type of eye disease that is caused by conditions that severely restrict blood flow to the eye, such as severe diabetic retinopathy
