Meal out and it's already a disaster

Luckily I seem to be able to eat a bit of chocolate with impunity after dinner.
As long as I eat it when I still have dinner bolus then I get away with it too.

Only happens with Galaxy. I can get away with an entire 100g bar without too much of a spike.
It's very odd.

So I think I've finally decided that I'll have
- breaded wholetail scampi with dressed salad & lemon wedge 46.7g of carbs
- 5 onion rings 28.3g of carbs
75g of carbs altogether

Thanks @JJay I enjoyed my meal but I would've much preferred scampi and chips.
Also embarrassing too because when I tested I found out I was 3.7 so had to sit there with a mouthful of jelly babies while everyone else was eating their meals

Maybe I've misunderstood you but I personally wouldn't have pre-bolussed at a restaurant. From experience you can't trust when the food will arrive and sometimes it either doesn't arrive at all or they come back 10 minutes later and tell you that they have run out of what you wanted. Or did you hypo even after eating?

It's interesting to see the carbs content you've quoted for that meal.
I had a ton of breaded scampi last night with a third of a tin of Heinz beans (not healthy I know) and the total was under 50g carbs. No idea what they are doing with their scampi to get to 46.7g. Those onions look a lot higher in carbs for just 5 of them than I'd have expected too but I guess they were in batter and I don't eat that so don't have a feel for it.

Hope you enjoyed your meal anyway.

Hi @pm133 yes you misunderstood me - I always bolus after eating in a restaurant. In a restaurant I always test before eating - when I tested before my meal last night in the restaurant I found out I was hypo.
I've attached some photos with the carb contents on - the photos are Hungry Horse carb content and also nutracheck carb content

If my daughter ever has scampi at a pub we just guess it at 5g per piece, it’s only the breaded coating which has carbs. Seems to work! Guessing the chips is a bit harder, she’s not too keen on them anyway and doesn’t usually eat them all so we normally bolus for half and then add the rest on with her pudding bolus if she ate more than expected.

Appears that they have turned something healthy ie fish salad and onions into something not quite so healthy

There were 10 pieces of breaded scampi so with your guess @Sally71 it would be 50g so not far out.

The scampi and salad was one item so healthy apart from the scampi being breaded! I had the onions as a side dish.

It just occurred to me that of course, your scampi pieves may well be a lot bigger than the ones I was eating yesterday.
That could account for the difference but @Freddie1966 makes a good point about them taking something essentially very healthy (fish and veg) and making it unhealthy (although tasty).
