Hi I have had type 1 diabetes for 10 years. It's been a lot of hard work I wasn't diagnosed the 'normal' way I was in hospital with another problem while I was in there the doctor noticed my blood sugars were high so they put me on steroids I was in hospital for 10 days when I came home all I did was lay on the sofa missed a lot of school I was 9. I had to continue the steroids for a while after I came home when I stopped them my bloods were still high so I started injections.
It's been a lot of ups and downs I got a dexcom g6 two years ago and a t slim pump last year.

Welcome @AlicePalace 🙂 You we’re lucky to get your G6🙂 I have a G7 funded and I think it’s brilliant, but I know any ‘unusual’ CGM is hard to get.

Yea I had a great children's diabetes team but once I got to 18 they moved me to adult services and the adult team isn't that great I haven't even seen my doctor this year.

Hopefully you have the number of the DSN team to call if you have a problem? I think the NHS is a bit overwhelmed. I usually see my consultant annually but this time it was more like 18 months since the last appointment.

Yea I think I have a nurse to call but they only work 4 days a week. My last appointment was cancelled and I am waiting for another. This was back in May

Hi and welcome from me too.

How are you getting on with the pump and sensor? Are they working as a closed loop (ie the pump and sensor communicate with each other to adjust your basal rate or do they just work in manual mode independently of each other?

Is there anything particular which brings you to the forum? It can be really helpful just to compare notes with others and exchange thoughts and feelings but if you have any particular questions, please ask. The forum is a goldmine of practical experience as well as support.

Hi yes the pump and sensor work together it has made things easier. I don't miss injecting or doing finger prick tests. I have found things hard at times just wanting a break but knowing that I can't do that I have to look after myself. I don't have many friends so I have been feeling lonely.

Great to hear the HCL pump sensor system is working well for you and you are finding it takes some of the strain of diabetes off you but yes, it is the relentlessness of diabetes and there not being days off or holidays from it which can wear you down. Being able to discuss stuff with other diabetics here on the forum who understand the issues is definitely a help for me and just being part of a community where we all face similar challenges and support each other and pass on our positive experiences as well as occasionally moan about the times it all goes horribly wrong is just comforting and makes you feel more "normal". I hope you find that it helps you as much as I have benefitted from being here.

What sort of hobbies and interests do you have? Maybe there will be people here that you can share those interests with or perhaps get a taste for new interests. We have some very talented arty crafty people here. I love animals and have horses and chickens and bees and we have others who are into sports and fitness or photography or reading or baking. We have a very broad spectrum of people on the forum.

I like arts and crafts. I love animals but don't have any pets. I would love a dog but my sister is scared of dogs. I like to read I have a lot of books. I love baking. It helps me relax. I am in the middle of writing a story about a teenage girl with type 1 diabetes.

Are there any groups on here about your hobbies? Like talking to people with the same hobbies as me?

Oh wow! I am impressed that you are writing a story, presumably based on your own experience. Is it a novel or more towards an autobiography?
Shame your sister's fear prevents you having a dog. Perhaps you will be able to get one when you have a home of your own or maybe you will meet someone who already has a dog. Do you have a favourite breed?
What sort of things do you like baking?

I don't think there is a thread for specific hobbies, but I think there is one for hobbies in general.... will see if I can find it...

Yea I am using some of my own experiences I am hoping to maybe get it published and help raise awareness of type 1 diabetes.
Yea my sister was knocked over by an overexcited little dog and she has been scared since. I like Labradors.
Mostly cakes and biscuits.

Here is a link to the Hobbies post I was thinking of....

Unfortunately the forum has recently started closing old threads but I am sure that @Anna DUK could open that thread back up for you and it may then take off with a new lease of life...

Or you could start your own thread about your hobbies....

Let us know if you need a hand :D
