We all know that MDI means Multiple Daily Injections, However the company I work for are very into 'Lean' manufacturing processes and they use the term MDI too except there it means Managing for Daily Improvement, I actually feel my MDI are MDI!

Just a random thought, but I do have to remember what I'm reading every time I see MDI! 🙂

You'll have to start calling it basal/bolus Dan! 🙂 (the MDI that is, not the MDI 😉)

Harrummph! our PCT regularly uses the abbrev LTC.

Well I thought - they must have a tennis club then. Actually more than one because it's normally plural. (LTA = Lawn Tennis Assoc, ergo LTC must = Lawn Tennis Club - yes?)

No - it stands for Long Term Conditions.

Chronic, what they do to the English Language, innit? :D :D :D :D

One that I frequently have to think hard about is 'BM' as used by many members here for 'BG' - Blood Measurement? I know, it's something I should know!

Boehringer Mannheim (sp?) I think Northie - manufacturer of the first test strips I ever used. Blood tests frequently called BM sticks, and then BMs

Squeeze a large droplet of blood to cover 2 'pads' (an area of approx 5mm x 7mm)
Wait 1 minute then wipe off the blood with a bit of cotton wool
Wait another minute
Then 'read' the result by matching the BM stick against coloured blocks on the side of the tube.

Ah well - at least it didn't involve wee and test tubes.

Thank you for clearing that up for me Mike! 🙂 Eeee, we don't know we're born, some of us! 😉

[Pythonesque Yorkshire Accent]"Digital readout in 5 seconds? You were lucky!"

Actually while the 2 minutes was a pain to have to wait, at least the strips were pretty upfront about their level of accuracy.

These days you get a reading given with a decimal place that will almost always cover a spread of 2-3mmol/L of possible results from the exact same sample. I've saw a comment form someone who said they would much prefer it if meters just said 'lowish' 'OKish' 'highish' etc rather than pretending to be able to give us information that they really can't guarantee.

I wonder if a Diabetes TLA guide (Two or Three Letter Acronyms) would be a good idea
