"Mandatory" LibreView Device Drivers update [for Windows & Mac]

I have this morning received a fairly scary email from Abbott starting:

"Dear Valued Customer,

On June 13th 2025, the LibreView team released an updated version of the LibreView Device Drivers. This is available for download from your LibreView account. The updated version of the device drivers is mandatory and does require you to update your device drivers to continue uploading your FreeStyle Libre 2 reader.

How does this new LibreView Device Driver impact you?

Installation of the newest LibreView Device Drivers is mandatory. You can continue to use the device drivers currently installed on your computer(s) to upload your FreeStyle Libre 2 reader."

I phoned Abbott Customer Services to check whether this applied ONLY to users of the Reader device and NOT to those who used the equivalent software on a Smartphone. The response was fairly unsatisfactory - I was not convinced that the call-taker really understood the point I was making - but my conclusion is that:
IF you do NOT use the Freestyle Reader device [because you use a Smartphone]
THEN you can completely ignore their email.

If anyone disagrees with my conclusion, please say!

I had that this morning, and concluded that it only applied to uploading the reader data to my laptop, which i don’t do any more since my laptop died, I scan the sensor on my phone every 8hours. It does specifically say 'reader' in the email.
