Dear Community:

I would like to understand a bit more about managing diabetes .
Please correct me if I am wrong :
1. Sugar level target is between 4 and 7
2. If hypo people take 10 - 15 grams of sugar and wait 15mins and repeat cycle .
3. Chs bolus- lunch time .
60gr of Chs /10 ratio = 6 units of insulin
Correction bolus
20 blood glucose -6 correction target = 15 / correction factor QUESTION is the correction factor different for each person ? Or is always 4 .
Thank you all for your help

You need to say a bit more about what guidelines you are looking for, is it for people who are Type 1, Type 2 taking insulin, TYpe 2 only on oral meds or dietary managed as the parameters will be different depending on how people manage their condition and very individual.

Thanks for your interest on my question .
Yes they are children around 11-12 years old .
Type 1 diabetes .
I calculate the insulin for meals but I get confused when they are high how to calculate the insulin. Basically the question is that . Is the correction factor the same for everybody ?

Welcome @ssf 🙂 No, the correction factor is not the same for everyone and an individual can even have different correction factors at different times of the day. In the evening my correction factor is 1 unit drops me 8mmol. Also, if someone’s blood sugar is very high then they usually become temporarily more resistant to insulin. In addition, a high blood sugar can take more than 2hrs to start going down.

Are these children relatives? If so, can you not get guidance from their parents or guardians?

Thank you ☺️
Yes, these are students I’m going through the medical plan and most of the time I have found blank spaces here . That’s why I decided to go in these group and submit the question.
From what I reading I should be calling nurses . The other thing is that with new monitor and devices , children don’t know their numbers .
Any ideas ?

If they’re your students, you should ask their parents/guardians. Some parents want contact before correction doses are given.

What monitors/devices do they have? How can they not know their numbers? Do the children have additional needs? I’d expect the 12 yr old to be mainly doing their own care and possibly the 11 yr old too.

It is just me that wants to understand more.
Thanks for your help — much appreciated
