Man held for stealing religious statue from Far South Side church

A man who wanted a priest to give him $50 so he could buy insulin and beer stole a valuable religious statue from a church instead and was caught when he tried to sell it Friday afternoon in the South Chicago neighborhood, police said.

Daniel Flores, 52, of the 10800 block of South Avenue D, was charged with felony theft for taking the 18-inch figure, police said.

?He claimed he needed money for an insulin injection,?? according to Father Curt Quebedeaux, Our Lady of Guadalupe Church pastor.

There comes a point where theft actually becomes acceptable, however his levels being stable after two days shows his control is good.

Interesting series of events - asked for money initially, then stole item from same organisation who had refused him money, and was caught when he tried to sell what was something pretty obviously stolen from a church.

As others have said, thank goodness for NHS.
