The NHS has committed to reduce its carbon footprint by 50% by 2025. New research from Every Can Counts shows that 59% of NHS workers consume one or more drinks can at work ? 17% above the national average - so Every Can Counts is working with hospitals to help make it easier for staff to recycle and meet their targets.

The research also shows that 80 per cent of NHS workers expect there to be dedicated drinks can recycling facilities in their staff areas. Even though 58% of NHS Trusts already operate mixed recycling facilities, the research indicates that staff are not aware of their presence so better communication is needed.

When I managed facilities in a small (non-clinical) NHS organisation, I took away the bins from under individual desks and replaced them with shared recycling and non-recycling bins. I was deeply unpopular to start with, but they soon got used to it!
