A new pancreatic cancer project has been launched to find ways to speed up scientific discovery to improve the survival rates of patients.

Cancer Research UK have invested £10m in the PRECISION-Panc project, which aims to find quick ways of finding the right treatment for individual tumours.

Researchers at Glasgow University will receive £8m from the fund.

Prof Andrew Biankin said due to the aggressive nature of the disease, patients did not always get treatment.

"It's essential that the most suitable treatment is identified quickly," he said.

"It's important we offer all patients the opportunity to be part of research alongside their standard care."

Anything that can improve the survival rate of this terrible disease is welcome. The survival rates from pancreatic cancer are grim, and haven't improved or changed in thirty years, mainly because of late presentation due to lack of early symptoms.

I genuinely thought I had pancreatic cancer in the months before I was finally diagnosed diabetic!

I was actually told I had pancreatic cancer after a CT scan, reported on by a radiologist. The specialist in Glasgow three weeks later said it wasn't, and the scan showed the changes of chronic pancreatitis.

Long three weeks, that.

Phew I bet! 😳 You too @sean penguin. Terrifying wait!

A friend of mine who will be out with us later has survived pancreatic cancer against all the odds. She had the 'Whipple' operation I understand. Is now in complete remission 😛🙂😛
