A major incident has been declared after thousands of people flocked to beaches on the south coast of England during this week’s hot weather.

Bournemouth, Christchurch and Poole council said services were “completely overstretched” as huge numbers of visitors defied advice to stay away.

The council leader, Vikki Slade, said: “We are absolutely appalled at the scenes witnessed on our beaches, particularly at Bournemouth and Sandbanks, in the last 24-48 hours.

“The irresponsible behaviour and actions of so many people is just shocking and our services are stretched to the absolute hilt trying to keep everyone safe. We have had no choice now but to declare a major incident and initiate an emergency response.”

This is what happens when you send out mixed messages :( People think the danger has passed :(

Especially bearing in mind that even if you already have antibodies from exposure they only last a few months! :( In light of that I’m staying in isolation as much as I can in the foreseeable future: only venturing out when I need to for blood tests; liver tests haven’t been done since Feb. 2020 & goodness knows how it’s doing?😱 This virus has hit me HARD & I DON’T want to risk it a 2nd time! It’s things like this that REALLY does make a 2nd wave of CV a REAL possibility!:(

You don't want to start thinking about what all those people are using for toilets..... I wouldn't be paddling or swimming in the sea that's for sure! I can't believe so many people are so irresponsible!

Just spoken to my brother in Tenerife and they have the beaches marked off and you have to book a spot with the local authority 2 days in advance. Anyone breaching the rules gets e1000 fine and if you are lippy with it you get arrested. He thinks it will be mayhem when the British holiday makers arrive and the Spanish government who have been raking it in from locals breaking the rules, will make even more of a fortune in fines from holiday makers.
The worry is of course that they will also bring the virus with them as it will no doubt be the same people who are flocking to the south coast beaches who will get on a plane to Tenerife.... Really can't imagine why any sane person would consider getting on a plane right now when you see that sort of behaviour.... not when your health depends on it.

What a load of ........ idiots.

My friends daughter was in Spain in March, just as they started lockdown , she wandered on a beach and was escorted back to her villa by armed police.

I live in Poole, and the weather here has been absolutely glorious for quite some time. We are lucky to have a small area of garden where we can get some fresh air, as there have been people around for quite some time - testing their eyesight, obviously. It has been impossible to go out and maintain social distancing. We can see the sea from the back bedroom window, and there are parks fairly close by, but have not been walking anywhere for weeks. Now that I am doing a bit of work I am really noticing that it is a strain, and have organised half days rather than normal hours.
The local paper is reporting that the beaches look like rubbish dumps - and worse. If visitors find that some locals look upon them coldly in future it will not be surprising really.
Just along our little cul de sac people have been prevented from going out by cars blocking drives or even being left in the middle of the narrow side street whilst someone 'just nips to the shops' on the main road. The bins could not be emptied last week as there was no access for the lorry, even though it is a mini one.
With the air ambulance being on alert to go and collect the casualties from jumping off the arch at Durdle Door and the temperature being 30 in the shade, but there is no shade, this is not a happy place to be.

I've just commented elsewhere that it is plain that a huge number of British people have no dealings with the commodity we used to call common sense. These days, it's far from common to have any sense whatever, it appears.

Do these folk not have jobs they can go and do, or are they skiving off?

I agree with Northie, it’s all because of the mixed messages given out by the “government”. Sensible folk can cope with the mixed messages, because they know that in England the virus is still lurking in the community. I regard myself as being sensible. Haven’t been outside my bubble for three months, apart from a flying visit to the garden centre, bemasked and fully hand sanitised, and I feel guilty about that.

As the “government” doesn’t have any common sense, it’s a bit unfair expecting the general public to have any.

A lot of them will be "furloughed" I'm guessing and happily spending the money given to them on our behalf by HMG doing all the things we are paying them not to do.

Most people have got quite a bit of holiday entitlement stored up, too. My son has just been told he’s got to take half his remaining holiday before the end of August.
(He might just come and visit us for a week, since he has no interest in going to packed beaches.)

Eldest daughter and grandson both work for M&B at the same pub, but in the kitchen and last week none of the staff had actually heard anything from their employer regarding anyone's return to work/re-opening - including the live-in manager. Son in law's employer hasn't been communicating. Full stop.

Who are M&B.?

Mitchells & Butlers - own all sorts of pubs & hotels all over the country eg Harvester Inns, Vintage Inns, Ember inns, Miller & Carter, Sizzling etc etc etc

Daughter is a classically trained chef and (given the premises, equipment and other staff obviously) will happily plan cook and serve a nutritionally balanced and beautifully presented dinner for 2/300 or beefburger & chips for 2. The pub she was at prior to this one, did 500 covers every Sunday lunchtime, no prob. her son hasn't got the paper qualifications that she has - but Guess Who's been doing his training? Or, he'll just as easily do a stocktake of either 'larder' or 'cellar' and bung this week's order in to 'suppliers'.
