I was at a meeting the other day and met someone who is adamant that wearing magnets help him control his diabetes. He still takes his pills but says that since he started wearing wrist and ankle magnets he has been able to cut back on his metformin. Has anyone ealse heard of this or seen any pulications or statistics.

I haven't heard of the use of magnets in relation to diabetes, but I have in relation to arthritic problems.

My husband tried them for a while and they didn't help much because he wasn't expecting them to andhe has been in quite a lot of pain. I think the effect in many cases is pyschological and my advice is always talk to your doctor and keep taking the pills.

If the sugar levels are down it is more like because of your diet and physocal activity than because of the magnets. If you want to give it a try do so, but monitor things and talk to health care professionals too. Any thing that reduces the number and dependency on pills is good in my books.

Dear Caroline,

I agree with you - it seems unlikely that magnets magnets are of use - what could the physiological mechanism be? Regarding the number of pills, I hate taking them and it is one of the reasons I went low carb, to avoid taking them!
