Pretoria - Bedrich Kubicek is worried that the wound on his leg might be infected after he discovered it was filled with maggots, following a visit to Steve Biko Academic Hospital.

Kubicek, 62, went to the hospital last Friday for his regular diabetes check up and asked the doctor to check his wound.

?It is in an awkward position and I asked her to check if all was fine because it was very painful,? he said.

?She did and asked what I used to clean it and I said water and Savlon (disinfectant).

Nasty :(

A blind doctor perhaps?

Steve Biko Academic Hospital deputy chief executive officer Mathabo Mathebula said: ?The hospital doctors and clinics are highly specialised and each and every one of them deal with specific specialist medical condition.

?He came to the hospital for specific reasons that wasn?t for wound care but was still given an antibiotic ointment for his leg wound?

?An arrangement has been made for Mr Kubicek to come to a specific specialised clinic, where his wound will be evaluated and then he will be referred with specialist advice to the local clinic to continue with the care of his wound.?

Obviously from the above quote the Drs didn't do basic medicine or observation skills before they specialised. 😱
