Hi, I've had an enquiry from a writer for a leading women's magazine who is looking for the following:

I'm looking to speak to a lady for our next issue who's recently (in the last few years) been diagnosed with diabetes as a result of a blood test taken at her GP. I'm ideally after someone who was having a routine blood test for something else, but was then diagnosed with diabetes as a result. They need to be in their 40s or 50s.

She would like a telephone interview with anyone who fits the bill, should take about 10-15 minutes and needs to take place by Monday 5th December at the latest 🙂

Please send me a PM if you are interested.

Hope someone sees this and the lady gets sorted i would of been there like a shot but my age goes againsgt me lol x

Would if i could
But i cant ! Help that is been diabetic wayyyy to long lol

I would do it but sadly no longer in my 50's.

I would be very wary of this and without discouraging people, please just be aware she may use quotes you don't want to actually say, but will get skewed. I'd want to know first of all what the article is about and how they perceive the diagnosis. It's really a razor edge thing as to whether it's yet another "get fat get diabetes" article.

Well email Alan like he says and you may well find all that out....Give them chance 🙄

Methinks Steff that Patti may be coming from the position of a person who was told this and that, and then been underquoted as opposed to misquoted- ie they took the bits of what was said that matched their mindset and entirely forgot to print all the caveats eg (and this isn't an actual quote) 'This is easy as long as you also do that or the other', came out as 'This is easy'.

Thank you for clearing that up TW

I've done a few similar 'Ladies Mag's' but I'm to young Yay !!

The trick with these is to ask for a proof and to sign of the article before they print - otherwise they cannot use it!!

Interview

Hi Alan

Sorry, I have been away from the site for the last couple of months. We moved house 6 months ago and discovered a major leak into one of the rooms built onto our extension. The builder discovered something a lot worse than it was and we have been a bit fraught over the last few months.

On the diabetes front, a bit worried at the moment too. I have registered with a new doctor and got my last HBAIC which was 6.9 but he reckoned that was okay as I'd been suffering from a UTI and had been on antibiotics. All that was taken into account and he was pleased with my progress. I was put on trimethroprim which interacted with the Metformin. I came off it and when I went for for check up, he suggested I come off the Metformin and see how I went?

As you are aware, Metformin is given to women with PCOS and I have noticed that when on the Metformin, my menstrual cycle became active again. It's almost like it kick started my fertility levels when I was in fact going through the menopause. Now that I have come off it completely, my period has stopped again and I have been enduring really bad sweats. My morning readings have been sky high but as the day progresses, the evening readings revert to an almost normal level. I was beginning to wonder whether it was my monitor as my diet has not changed but I think raging hormones may have had something to do with my diagnosis in the first place?

Can you tell me if you have had this query from any other woman on the forum? My medical friends tell me that if my oestregen levels are very low this can have an adverse effect on my glucose levels either way?

I find all of this so frustrating to convey to my Norwegian GP, who is male and is English isn't that good!

Sorry to come across as such a minnie moaner, but I'm at my wits end with this conundrum.

Now that I have managed to log in again, after several failed attempts, i will join in with the chat, that's if anyone remembers me!

Best Wishes
Donna 🙂🙂🙂
