According to the back of my packet of penne pasta, if it is uncooked (it is about 66.3g per 100g of uncooked pasta) and cooked (about 28.2 g per 100g of cooked pasta).

Did you have macaroni cheese as it could have been the cheese that messed things ups for you?

I checked on the calorie bible and macaroni (dried pasta) has more or less the amount of carbs as any other pasta shape (carbs vary a little with brands).
I usually don't eat that type, but I read on a book ("Type 1 diabetes in children, adolescents and young adults") that macaroni pasta is thinner than other pasta shapes and might give a quicker glucose response than others. Could it be that it gets absorbed too quickly?
Also, it might depend on how much fat is in the pasta sauce...
