I have to go for a lung function test on tuesday as part of the preperations for my heart surgery . This is beause I an asthmatic, I mentioned this to my dentist on friday and she recons it is quiet strenuous😱 I have now had my impresions done for dentures and had the first wax mould fitting and and colour match to match the dentures to the 8 remaining teeth in my mouth, so with any luck I should get my dentures this friday or the following friday:D

Good to hear about the progress with the teeth Mal 🙂 Hope the test goes well on Tuesday, it's not something I have had done so can't offer any words of wisdom!

Thanks Alan at least then I will be able to eat some peanuts and toast (not together🙂)

Sounds like it will be a treadmill test, which gets gradually tougher - faster / steeper. You can stop if it gets too much. Best to wear comfy clothes and footwear, so you don't get too hot. Hope all goes well.

Good luck for Tuesday Mal and fingers crossed your new gnashers are a good fit.

Good luck Mal.

I've had a lung function test Mal, well at least the spirometry element of it. It was fine and just involved a lot of breathing hard and holding your breath. Explained here;

Not sure if they'll do the treadmill element of it if you're already scheduled in for heart surgery but they could do. Good luck!

I believe that I will be doing just the spirometry test as they have told me that all the tests will be done sitting down.

Thanks everyone for you good wishes for tomorrow.At least it is another step towards hopefully getting the heart opp done.🙂

I hope so Mal. As you are asthmatic, does your GP - or the hospital if yours is hospital treated - not do (at least) annual spirometry tests 'on' you? I have emphysema and mine has ever since I was diagnosed with it, so I assumed it was standard ??.

Hi Jenny, I have never had one of these tests done before even thoughI have been asthmatic for about 26 years.

It is more normal test peak flow, at Asthma check ups. I only had spirometry at the hospital or occupational health when i reported the clean product called Tristal made me wheezy.

Ah that's true grovesey - but additionally our surgery used to have a spirometer which was plugged into a reader thingy, plugged into the mains - and they used that too. The nurse who did the checks when they had the spirometer, was herself asthmatic - but thinking about it last year when she'd left and another nurse did it - just the peak flow. I enquired about it and she just said 'No, we don't use that now'. Sorry, I'd completely forgotten that!

Just got back from Lung function test . Everything ok and good readings, my best peak was 540🙂 . I got there early and had had the test and was on my way back home by the time I was supposed to have my appt.

Great news Mal, hopefully it wont be long now until you get your heart op.
