I'm really struggling with what to bring to work for lunch. I really hate salad or raw veg and am struggling for lunches. I need to get my bg's back down as they have been going up lately. Am just in the middle of changing doctors and then will get a blood test done as currently not on any medication but think that maybe I should be. I know I have been eating a lot of rubbish recently as well as too many carbs but really struggling.

Any ideas would be gratefully received

Do you like soup? That could be taken in a thermos. I tend to take pieces of cooked chicken (but also salad which you don't like) and small pieces of cheese, a few low carb crackers or a slice of burgen bread or hummus and breadsticks, boiled eggs...that kind of thing. If you crave something sweet, a couple of plain biscuits won't cause too much of a problem or a mini fun bar. The small bags of fruit they do in supermarkets are good too. Try to go for a walk after lunch, that helps me 🙂

I'm type 2 diet controlled too and agree lunches can be difficult because shop bought sandwiches can be high carb.

Good luck!

Thanks Amigo. Could try the soup. I dont know of any low carb crackers that are available in the supermarkets though

I always make my own soup and just warm it up at work. That way I know exactly whats going in it.

I never came up with any good ideas when I was working, partly because I could never heat anything at work, I had to use the rotten staff eatery or go out. I still struggle for ideas now I am home, especially when it is cold.

This time of year I always take soup (home made), but you could take things like chilli (veggie or not, as you choose), curry (ditto), any kind of veggie stew - easier if (a) you can make it yourself and take it in and (b) you can heat it up in work, but you could always take a thermos in (if you've got a wide necked one its easier). That way, you don't need to add any carbs to it (only those that are a part of the meal itself), which should help with your control.
Melba toasts are fairly low carb - you get them in packets of about 6, and can eat as many as you feel you need to - they work out about 3 each if I recall correctly - and a box has 4 or 5 packets in it, so can go a long way. So you could do some egg mayo or tuna mayo and a packet of melba toast, which would be pretty low carb.

One of my favourite light dinners at the moment is a sort of frittata, in a pan I cook whatever veg I have in the fridge, usually somwthing like onion, pepper, mushroom, tomato, spinach, pour over beaten eggs, (I do 6 if it's me and hubby eating) keep on the hob whilst it cooks through then sprinkle with grated cheese and finish off under the grill. Normally serve this with salad and potatoes for dinner, I have about a 1/4 and hubby has a 1/2 then I keep the remains for lunch the next day. Delicious warmed up in the microwave.
Diabetes UK has a great recipe for chilli made with mixed beans and I keep the leftovers for lunch the next day too!

Depends on your individual tolerance but I have two Asda high grain crackers, total about 16 gram of carb and just under 3 grams of fibre but you could have a slice of wholemeal bread for that.

Lots of the breadsticks are not too bad and great for dipping 🙂

Sesame Ryvita are 6g carb each and we get through shedloads as we both like em, so whatever we might have on a sandwich we can have on the Ryvita - if it would send it soggy just take the eg Tuna mayo in a 'Tupperware' tub and the crispbreads separate, either spread it at lunchtime or just eat a spoon/fork-ful of tuna and a bite of Ryvita in turns.

A lump of cheese and an apple is also a nice enough lunch if you're as comatose as me in the morning!

I am very new to all this but if you have a lidl near you they do a high protein roll which is 11/12 carbs per roll. One is sufficient for lunch as they are very filling.

They do not raise my BG.

Oh and very big!

You beat me to it Lynn! I buy 6 and freeze them. Sometimes a half one is enough with egg or other low carb food. I also eat Nairn cheese crackers though they come in mini packs of 6 in a box and it's hard not to eat them all

I bought a dozen as we don't have a local Lidl. 10 of them in the freezer!

Nairns fine ground oatcakes @ 4.3 g each. Dark Rye Ryvita is good for me too.
