Why lunar eclipses happen​

Lunar eclipse is the result of the Earth blocking the sun's light from reaching the moon.

The lunar eclipse will take place TODAY Friday 14 March 2025 beginning at approximately 04:30am. People living in the west of the uk will see a total eclipse of the moon, while the rest of the Country will see it about 90 per cent obscured.

The moon will be fully covered for about 66 minutes and it will take approximately six hours to move through all of the Earths shadow. Best time to view this in Britain is around 4:30 5:00am, before the sky becomes too bright.

Having set my alarm to get up early to see the lunar eclipse, I am disappointed coz the red moon is hidden behind clouds. I keep going outside in the hope that the clouds have cleared but so far they haven't! :(

It was cloudy here too, I didn't get up especially to see the eclipse but I woke up at 4.30 for the loo and had a quick squint outside.
 
@everydayupsanddowns Thank you. I was disappointed as I'd been looking forward to seeing the eclipse. It's not an every day occurrence that the moon turns a blood red, however there will be a chance to see another lunar eclipse later in the year on 07 September so fingers crossed.
