People with low vitamin D levels may be at increased risk of type 2 diabetes, according to the results of a new US epidemiological study;

In addition to these important findings, recent research appears to have established a link between low Vitamin D levels and retinopathy in people with diabetes:

‘In conclusion, this meta-analysis indicates an association between vitamin D deficient type 2 diabetes mellitus patients and an increased risk of diabetic retinopathy. Type 2 diabetes patients with vitamin D deficiency experienced an increased risk of diabetic retinopathy.’

Interesting, that Amigo. Thanks. Typical US study, mind, no info for T1s.

My guess is that there is no association in T1, because T2 is such a complex disorder, there’s almost bound to be different associations.

Very interesting, I had severe vit D deficiency about 6 months prior to my diagnosis 😳

I was found to have a very low level of Vit D which I now have optimised but it took me to drive it with the GP. Sadly many GP’s don’t pay much attention to it.

I heard several years ago that Vit D deficiency during pregnancy can make the child vulnerable to several conditions and as my sister developed MS quite young and me with my diabetes from age 12, I am inclined to think that might be true.
Get out in the sun more: ah no we can’t do that any more can we!
