Hi all, apart from the obvious risk of hypos are there long term complications of having consistently low readings below 4mmol? I don't get hypo symptoms until as low as 2.6 now and just wondered whether similar complications as having readings too high can occur?

I believe that too many lows can impair brain and cognitive function and lead to some memory loss, plus of course the danger of losing hypo awareness completely and keeling over with no warning. If you are running low constantly and only detect hypos inthe mid 2s and below, then you need to review your medication and see if you can maintain higher levels for some time in order to get your warning signs back 🙂

Hi Raymond

I'd agree with Alan. Additionally I was interested to read over the weeked a summary of some research which confirmed what I've read on forums for a while that widely swinging BGs with a low A1c are more damaging to tissues than consistent, but much higher BG (with correspondingly high A1c). Long term very low BG level doesn't do the ole grey matter any good at all.

Thanks. I'll have a word with DSN who is altering my dosages at the moment.
