Can anyone recommend a book or website which lists the GI of foods and is UK centric?

Thanks they look worth investigating. My 'homework' from the dietician is to look at GI so I'll probably have a look at that first. I am currently on Steroids at the moment so anything sophisticated isn't worth it as the moment as they raise blood sugar levels.

Something to remember when looking into GI as a technique is that the quoted values are an average response from a relatively small sample. Additionally, GI of whole meals is complex - high GI elements can be 'slowed down' by other components of the meal.

They can be a very useful guide to general principles (bread with seeds in is *likely* to be slightly easier on the BGs than white sliced) but you can't use them in isolation. Your own individual body-response to porridge, or banana, or... or... or... may be quite different than the 'official' number.

Testing before and between 1-2 hours after different meals to see your peak glucose may end up giving you more information personally.

Good luck 🙂

I agree that life's too short khskel !!

I wonder why GI (or GL) is regarded as important when taking steroids?

I mean a T1 still has the problem that if the release of the carb doesn't match the release of the bolus, then they are in trouble.

What end is the dietician aiming for ?
