It seems that we are led to believe that low fat foods are better for us, yet most have higher sugar levels to compensate.

As people with diabetes, should we be primarily concerned about the amount of sugar in foods rather than the amount of fat, even if we need to lose some weight?

If both are equally important, I thought a list of low sugar/low fat products would be useful on here as I for one spend ages in supermarkets scrutinising the nutrition labels.

Has anyone found any low fat foods where the sugar content has either remained the same, reduced or raised only slightly?

I get diet Irish yoghurts from Sainsbury's, they are fat free and have no added sugar. Yummy too.

As a diabetic you should be primarily concerned with the sugar/carb content of food. If you avoid processed foods then you shouldn't have a problem with the fat content of food, especially as most ingredient list don't tell you the type of fat in a product. If you get a carb counting book (like the calorie, carb and fat bible (find it on Amazon)) then this lists fat/calorie content so you can plan your meals/shopping according to your diet.
