HI all
Forgive me if I ask a question that has probably been asked 1000 times before but I have searched the forums and cannot find a definitive answer.
The question is:-
What is a daily level of carbs that is acceptable on a low carb diet?
I am currenty following the low carbs philosophy and my carbs daily are between 50 and 85.
I have no idea if thisi is Low, Middling or High.
Is there a daily carbs intake target?
I am using the Dashboard on the Low Carbs programme to guide me and record levels.
Many thanks in advance.
Any help appreciated.

It depends really. You average about the same as me, carb wise & I consider it low carb. I think under 50g is strict low carb, 50g-100g medium low carb & 100g-150g liberal low carb. These are daily figures.

Thanks Mark
Re-set my target to 75.
I believe targets should be achievable especially in the early stages and my current location.
50 would be almost impossible to achieve at the moment.
When I get back to the UK it should be easier.

Yes, it should be gradual.

This is interesting, I had been aiming for below 150g but that was rather arbitrary. Maybe I should aim a bit lower.
(Edit to add: average from last 7 days 142g).

Worst culprit for me is Belvita breakfast biscuits. I'll have a pack each day when I get into the office. (I don't eat before that). They do advertise themselves as slow-release carbohydrates, but perhaps I should find an alternative.

If I had 150g carbs a day that would roughly translate to 50g carb per meal, which would send my BG too high I have also found out that slow release carbs make no difference to me. But it's all about testing to see what you can tolerate

I set myself a target of under 100g a day, which is about 30g a meal. It seems to be working so far in general together with the tablets, but it depends what I have.

Well done Beck S. Keep going 🙂

As others have said, there are no official definitions.

The RDA generally published on packaging etc seems to suggest 250-300g/day of carbs for an adult male. I can already feel the eyes watering of many of our T2s here at that level of carb intake. Certainly lots of our T2s (and T1s for that matter!) would struggle to keep BG well managed eating that every day.

I tend to think of myself as very much moderate-carber and my daily average is probably 140-160 most often, though occasionally I can have 100g or more in a single meal with the benefit of rapid insulin.

Like others I tend to think of under 100g/day as being lowish carb, and 50g-75g/day as being more very low carb, with the possibility of ketosis.
