Hi all - new to the forum (made about 4 posts so far!) and just wanted to declare my low carb diet (I know some people find it contentious!) although I know that it's different strokes for different folks.

I did try a GI diet, but found myself (bizarrely enough) getting hungrier quicker..!

We've got people on all sorts of regimes here - as you say it's whatever works for you that is the best diet to follow 🙂

Greetings from a moderate to high carber (but not as high as I was pre-diagnosis!). 🙂

Andy 🙂

How many grams of carb are you having of a day, I would like to try it out, but I have a large appetite.........

Hi MrP

How low is low? If very low do you get much of a problem with protein (or fat) conversion?

Had a thread about this a short while ago: http://www.diabetessupport.co.uk/boards/showthread.php?t=20137 where someone's clinic recommended:
(2 x ideal weight (BMI 25) in kg) = g CHO per day

as a suggestion.

I?m really interested to hear people?s opinions on everydayupsanddowns question about protein conversion.

My hospital told me how to basal test by doing carb free meals e.g. bacon&eggs, steak&salad. I soon became aware that my levels would rise dramatically despite absolutely no carbs. For instance a pork chop would lead to a rise of 4-5mmol/l. The advice from my hospital was that a lot of protein could affect levels but not to worry about it. I ended up with some pretty weird basal settings.

Having seen the advice on here and the Walsh pumping insulin book I now do better basal testing! I would have really good control if I didn?t eat anything at all (and thinner!). Add food (despite strict carb counting most of the time) and exercise into the equation and it all goes a bit haywire.

So back to the original question what do people do for a high protein low carb meal?
