hi all, i need your help. Ive just started to try cutting out carbs but dont know if im doong this right, im pretty much eating the same things everyday until i can figure this out so at the moment breakfast is scrambled egg with some ham/bacon, lunch is some form of wafer thin ham, sweetcorn, pepper, carrots, cucumber with a small ammount of cheese and pineapple on top, dinner was a cheesey leek bake with peas and an egg. Im confused as to wether all that veg constitutes low carb???

This is a significant reduction in carbs fir me, im a real carb addict, bread and crisps etc so i want to make sure im doing this right and havent just swapped to things equally as bad. I have a significant ammount of weight to lose.

Im a fussy eater and dont eat any sauces, or dressings on anything ( also have a weird thing about white food like fish) so am struggling to find other things... i would appreciate some breakfast ideas, would yoghurt and some fruit be ok. Im type 2 taking dapagliflozin.

Also i was googling low carb snacks and pork scrathings came up - it would amazing if i could still have these but i find it hard to believe that these could be considered resonable... any help greatly appreitated...

I found any snack was bad for me, I needed to watch calories, it depends on whether or not you need to lose weight.
I did, but I reversed my type 2, so it was a worthwhile journey.

I would suggest self testing to see what you're levels are doing. Keep a record of your BG, along with a food diary, testing before and 1-2 hours after. Do at least a couple of weeks so you can see any patterns. I believe warm weather might make a little difference to our levels. It's quite warm here at the moment.

I’d recommend looking at ‘carbs and cals’ book which has handy photos of various sized portions and relevant nutritional info. I have Greek yoghurt for breakfast with ground linseeds and teaspoon of home made jam with no sugar. Also I substitute foods such as making rice out of celeriac and mashing swede and celeriac instead of potatoes. It’s important to vary diet otherwise you may get bored.

Becky have a look at the 'What did you eat yesterday' thread...see what other type 2 members are eating...you'll surprised at what you can eat...yes pork scratchings are a low carb snack...some 'crisps' such as Quavers are low carb...watch the veggie peas & carrots can be quite starchy/ carby...some fruits are high in sugar...as suggested by @Ljc a copy of Carbs & Cals would be useful for you...it lists the carb content of most foods...lowering those carbs helps with weight loss...I follow a low carb full fat diet...which works for me...have a good look around the forum on the low carb recipes & baking threads...we can still eat bread (low carb or high protein)...have a full English breakfast...you'll find plenty there to give you some ideas...good luck.

Your diet seems reasonable, but I would avoid the pineapple & watch your portions of peas & carrots. Leafy green veg are best. Pork scratchings are fine as a snack and as you are following a low carb diet which should keep your weight down (if required), When going low carb, our bodies convert to burning fat instead, so fat content needs to be upped a bit to keep us fuller for longer. Low carbing also help with cholesterol levels. Full fat Greek Yoghurt with a few berries is fine for breakfast. I add some mixed nuts as well for extra texture.

Ditch the pineapple and up the cheese I agree that you really need to test so that you can see what foods up your bgs

Cheese, or any dairy, and my cholesterol is off the scale.
None saturated fats for me I'm afraid.

Really? There is very strong evidence that saturated fat has very little effect on cholesterol levels. My overall figure is high but my ratios are perfect, which is why I've never been offered statins. The total cholesterol number means nothing. Maybe some of us, for some reason, are different & metabolise fat in different ways & some may find fat does affect the cholesterol levels.

My cholesterol levels came down when I lowered carbs and upped fats,
from over 7 to 5

Same here Carol...although not down to 5 ( I wish they had) but they have reduced since I lowered carbs & upped the good fats...like @Mark Parrott my overall figure is a 7 but my ratios are good so no statins for me either.

It's certainly not proven the saturated fat has little effect.
There are many of us that react to saturated fats in a negative way. A massive increase in LDL, with low HDL.
Whether you prefer prefer high overall cholesterol is a personal choice.
I prefer to keep my cholesterol targets within a normally accepted limits.
For me, as with many, simply cutting the saturated fats out works, and isn't a hardship.
